Additional Girls and Boys Information
|
Early on in "Breakable," from her excellent Girls and Boys, Ingrid Michaelson muses on the fragility of the heart, in both the literal and symbolic senses--"have you ever thought about what protects our hearts--just a cage of rib bones and other various parts… we are just breakable girls and boys." Ingrid Michaelson's songs have been featured on Grey's Anatomy episodes and Old Navy commercials, and there's a good reason she keeps getting selected for such high-profile exposure--the songs on Girls and Boys are an immediately appealing blend of pop song craft and vulnerable emotion. Michaelson has a more accessible voice and presentation than contemporaries like Feist and Regina Spektor, and her piano-driven arrangements hit all the right peaks and valleys, calling on a delicate acoustic guitar here, an overdriven electric there, to highlight her alternately joyful and mournful melodies. In short, she's made a fine pop album worth checking out, even if you're not a fan of Dr. Meredith and McDreamy. --Ben Heege

I highly recommend this cd. Her lyrics and melodies are wonderful and appeal to all ages. I borrowed this cd from the local library after hearing Ingrid on PBS. Decided after listening to the whole cd that I had to purchase it for my own listening library and I love it.
I find it distracting and cluttery. Her voice is sweet, but too quiet for the loud guitar behind her.
She has a very sweet, pure sound that I find appealing. I had not had any exposure to Ingrid, but after seeing her on a television show, I decided to listen to snips of this album, and then I bought it. I love so many of the songs on this CD.
I highly recommend this album. I love listening to interesting music in the car, this album is perfect for just that purpose. The music is upbeat, has interesting lyrics, and Ingrid's voice has such a pure tone, that it is a pleasure to listen to her sing.
it somehow manages to be both deep and lighthearted at the same time, and totally listenable over and over again. this is a constant in my ipod/cd player. you just can't help but sing along.think ani difranco + fiona apple - excess anger = ingrid michaelson. i love this album. my husband bought it on a whim one day and we were both VERY pleasantly surprised by her depth of feeling, lovely musical compositions, strength of voice, and intelligence of lyrics.
